Birthplace of Aphrodite – Petra tou Romiou

Aphrodite’s mythical birthplace ‘Petra tou Romiou’ is an interesting geological formation of huge rocks along one of the most beautiful coastlines on the island, located on the southwest coast of the Pafos (Paphos) district. This is also known as Aphrodite’s Rock in English.

This is also one of the famous beaches in Cyprus and thousand of people visit every year. As the name implies, its a large rock in the depth of ocean with a lot of myth and full of stories.

According to one of the legends its the birthplace of Greek Goddess Aphrodite (Aphrodite is an ancient Greek goddess associated with love, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation ). The Ancient Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty – Aphrodite – was born of the sea foam here.

The sea in this region is generally rough, persuading tourists not to swim there. It is not permitted to climb the rock. A restaurant, a tourist pavilion and the resort are nearby.

Water is crystal clear here surrounded by colorful pebbles and rocks. Thousand of tourist come here to capture the breathtaking views. According to local if you swim and take a round of this rock, you will get beautiful wife.
